The broad beans have been growing steadily at home. I've hardened them off outside and the blustery weather will have helped strengthen them too. Today I decided it was time plant them out.
I have planted them more widely than in previous years as an experiment. I think the plants will have more room to grow, but they may need individual support.

The advice I've read from the RHS is that wider spacings don't bring any greater yield petty plant and as a result have lower yield per area. That said, I'm rubbish at weeding so making it easier to get the hoe between the rows means less competition and a better result.
I have jammed them together before so now I'm using the suggested spacing. We'll see what happens.
Getting a hoe in is a good point.
